The Conjuring: The Creepiest Items In The Warren's Occult Museum (2024)

Ed and Lorraine's now-closed Warrens' Occult Museum includes some items found by the two legendary paranormal investigators, helping inspire The Conjuring movies. In real life, the married couple formed their own society, the New England Society for Psychic Research (NESPR), and investigated some of the most terrifying hauntings ever. This includes the Amityville hauntings, the Perron family hauntings, and the Enfield poltergeist case. It's their findings while investigating these cases that led to the Warrens' museum.

The terrifying but intriguing Warrens' Occult Museum is full of creepy, cursed, and haunted objects that have been the basis for several movies, including The Amityville Horror and every movie in The Conjuring universe. There are iconic featured artifacts like the Annabelle doll and lesser-known items that don't have as much lore attached to them. The Warrens' Occult Museum brings the fictionalized world to reality and houses real haunted and cursed objects that are allegedly dangerous.

Haunted Piano

Ed Warren Got It From The Home Of A Dead Priest

The Warrens' Occult Museum houses a haunted piano that Ed Warren would hear playing on its own, but it would immediately stop playing whenever he went to the room to see what was happening. The Warrens allegedly got the piano from the house of a deceased priest. The piano music finally stopped when Ed Warren hired a priest to bless the museum every two or three months (via USA Today). The artifact briefly appears in The Conjuring Universe in Annabelle Comes Home.

Judy's babysitter, Daniela, goes into the room at the Warren family house and plays a few keys despite being warned earlier in the movie not to touch anything in the room. While the piano doesn't play a huge role in the movie, she does not listen to those instructions as she explores the room full of haunted artifacts, which ultimately does not work out well for her.

The Samurai Suit

This Does Not Exist In The Real Museum

The cursed samurai suit has appeared in several movies in The Conjuring Universe as one of the props held in the occult museum room. It was present in the first two installments of The Conjuring but was more prominently displayed in Annabelle Comes Home when the teens check out the Warrens' room of haunted artifacts. In the movie, demonic entities in the room are brought to life when the Annabelle doll is let loose.

The two young girls are mesmerized by the armor. As they continue to stare at it, they begin to hear distant screams of the victims of the samurai who wore it. Interestingly, the suit is not an item located in the real Warrens' Occult Museum. Instead, it was an item that was created just for the movies, first as a cool artifact to look at and then as something very scary for the girls to come across in Annabelle Comes Home.

Vampire Coffins

This Is Supposed To Be A Modern-Day Vampire Coffin

The Warrens' Occult Museum also claimed to have vampire coffins, but there isn't much information about them beyond that. The vampire coffins have also not been displayed specifically in The Conjuring Universe yet. Although there are no clear details behind the discovery or specific story about the coffins, these items are still creepy artifacts that were likely exciting viewing in the museum.

According to the museum, this coffin was used by "a modern-day vampire." There is no proof of them finding vampires, and neither Ed nor Lorraine ever gave a real story about the incident other than what is known about its status in their museum. It could have belonged to someone living a "vampire lifestyle," but whether this had anything to do with the mythos of vampires or not is something that most fans will just have to use their imaginations for.

A Brick From Borley Rectory

The Most Haunted House In England

The Warrens’ Occult Museum held some of the most haunted and cursed objects in the world, many of which were gathered by the Warrens on their travels to haunted locations worldwide. One object of particular significance is a brick from Borley Rectory, which is said to be the most haunted building in the United Kingdom. Built in 1862, the first reports of ghostly activity came in 1863.

The building was damaged by a fire in the 1939 and eventually torn down in 1944. Though it's just an unassuming brick, the fact that it came from such a cursed location is more than enough to scare anyone. While this has never been featured in a Conjuring movie, Borley Rectory has been part of two different movies, one an animated film in 2017 called Borley Rectory: The Most Haunted House in England and a feature film called The Ghosts Of Borley Rectory in 2021.

The Perron Family Music Box

The original The Conjuring was one of the 2010s' best "haunted house" movies, arguably spawning both a franchise and a newfound interest in old-school horror. Inspired by classic horror movies, the film helped to bring the Perron family haunting into the mainstream under James Wan’s steady directorship. The Warrens visited the Perron family in Rhode Island in 1971 to help free them from the presence of a witch's spirit and the Satanist Bathsheba Sherman.

One of the spookiest elements of the movie was the music box, which always threatened a scare whenever it appeared onscreen. Lorraine actually sees the spirit of a child within it when she opens it in the movie and takes it back to their home at the end of The Conjuring. In the movie, Ed places it in the museum, and it opens and begins playing its music. The box itself is safely tucked away in the Warrens' museum and has since become synonymous with the films.

The Pearls Of Death

Annabelle Comes Home's Mourning Bracelet's Inspiration

In Annabelle Comes Home, Daniela puts on a mourning bracelet from the museum and attempts to contact her deceased loved ones. This is a huge problem because it breaks the no-touch policy and creates even more problems when she opens Annabelle's case. However, there is no mourning bracelet in the real Warrens' Occult Museum. This bracelet was likely inspired by the Pearls of Death, which did exist in the museum.

The Pearls of Death have yet to appear in The Conjuring franchise, but they’re notoriously one of the most dangerous items in the Warrens’ museum. The Pearls of Death is a cursed necklace that is said to strangle whoever puts it on, with its former owner complaining of being choked while wearing it. People had to rip them off of her to save her life. They currently rest on the Warrens' shelves, where the Pearls of Death includes a notation not to touch it because it is cursed.

The Conjuring Mirror

The Inspiration For The Haunted Television In Anabelle Comes Home

In Annabelle Comes Home, Daniela looks into a television screen that is supposed to tell the future. However, she freezes up as she stares at it, almost as if she has been turned to stone. This is not a real item in the Warrens' Occult Museum, but the television set in the movie is probably based on the conjuring mirror. Despite its familiar name, the artifact actually has nothing to do with The Conjuring movies.

Instead, the mirror gets its name from the fact that it was used to summon or conjure spirits on its reflection. Tony Spera (the son-in-law of the Warrens) says that this form of wizardry is called "crystalmancy," and there is a long history of mirrors being used as gateways for the dead to return to the world of the living. "Crystalmancy is when a spirit is able to present itself on a shiny object such as a TV, a mirror, a plate, glass window, a bumper of a car, etc," he said (via THR).

The Toy Monkey

The Monkey Came To Life In Annabelle Comes Home

This toy monkey actually appeared in The Conjuring Universe. The monkey's history remains unknown, although the Warrens acquired it sometime after founding the New England Society for Psychic Research in 1952. It first appears in The Conjuring when Ed gives a reporter a tour of the museum. He explains that everything in the room is cursed, even the toys. The reporter tries to touch the monkey, but Ed stops him. It is also seen in The Conjuring 2, sitting in the museum.

However, the toy monkey made its biggest appearance to date in the spin-off movie Annabelle Comes Home. When Annabelle is released, the toy monkey comes to life, begins to screech, and causes a huge scenein the museum. While there is already something unnerving about this particular toy monkey, its alleged power is very scary. It is said that the monkey is possessed by a demon and enjoys stalking its victims before eventually murdering them.

A Satanic Idol

The Idol Reportedly Made Lorraine Sick

The Satanic idol looks both goofy and terrifying, with its wide eyes and slim figure cutting an unnerving form. The idol itself was found in the woods of Sandy Hook in Connecticut, with the Warrens believing it was used in Satanic rituals. The idol was found by a young hunter who encountered an old man in black robes soon after seeing it. The hunter was put in contact with the Warrens, and the idol remained in the Warrens' Occult Museum ever since.

The idol also caused problems when it was added to the museum. The second that Ed put it in the museum, Lorraine fell ill, and doctors couldn't explain what was happening to her. Ed thought it was a curse placed on his family by a satanic cult high priest who once owned the idol. It was also said that most people don't hear about Satanism in Connecticut, but it is more prevalent than many think (via CT Insider).

A Shadow Doll

A Doll That Kills People In Their Dreams

While Annabelle looks less threatening in real life than in her movie appearances, the Shadow Doll captures Annabelle’s terrifying cinematic design. With its bird feathers and a genuine human tooth, the Shadow Doll is a nightmarish object that makes even Chucky look like something to cuddle with. This is also the first haunted item people saw when entering the Warren Occult Museum. This is a doll made specifically to cause harm.

Whereas Annabelle is said to have attacked and scratched people, the Shadow Doll is said to have the terrifying power of entering someone’s dreams and killing them while they’re sleeping. It works when someone takes a picture of the Shadow Doll and writes a curse on the back of the photo. They then send it to whoever the curse is aimed at, and that invites the curse into their lives.

The Real Annabelle

The Most Famous Warren Haunted Item

One of the most famous haunted dolls of all time, Annabelle is imprisoned in a holy box at the Warrens’ museum, keeping the evil doll from wreaking havoc. While the real doll (a Raggedy Ann doll) doesn’t look as terrifying as the doll from the movie, it still has an unnerving presence. Admittedly, the doll did not do everything shown in the movies. But the fact that the Warrens thought it prudent to keep the doll locked away in a holy box shows how much they fearedwhatever was lying inside it.

Annabelle inspired a Conjuring spin-off series of movies and is, arguably, the most successful part of the Conjuring franchise to date. There's something especially terrifying about a potentially possessed doll. In real life, the Warrens said a demonic entity that they couldn't exorcise inhabited the doll, which is why it's in its own case. In the movies, the doll has continually caused havoc through its movie appearances and could potentially cause more as TheConjuring Universe expands.

Non-Featured Items In The Ed and Lorraine Warren Museum

Cursed Photographs, Demon Masks, Human Skulls, & Children's Tombstones

The Warrens' Occult Museum also claims to have several cursed photographs among its other accursed objects. There aren't specific stories behind these photos as they're not featured items, but it's still a creepy thought and might make fans wonder if digital versions of these photos can be cursed as well. As TheConjuring Universe evolves and photographs of demonic entities are used in the movies, it's entirely possible that these occult museum items could inspire another story.

Another general item said to be in the Warrens' Occult Museum is demon masks. The museum has various demon masks that don't seem to have specific lore around them. Even if there isn't a specific story attached to the demon masks, the thought of them is still creepy and fits the haunted and cursed aesthetic of the entire museum. Their presence also asks whether they have contributed to the lore surrounding any of the demonic entities in the movie franchise.

Aside from the usual cursed and haunted objects in the museum, the Warrens also collected some objects that were used in Satanic rituals that they investigated and combatted during their careers as paranormal experts. Some of the more unnerving of these artifacts are the tombstones of children, allegedly used in these dark occult rituals by those who dabble in the darker side of the paranormal.

Not everything in the Occult Museum is a cursed or possessed object. Some objects are just oddities that are there from the Warrens’ decades of investigating the paranormal, while others come from the Conjuring franchise itself. However, similarly to the tombstones, the museum also holds several human skulls that were used in occult rituals and witchcraft to communicate with demons, opening gateways between hell and Earth.
